14 Places to Eat Healthy this Festive Season
Seeing the line of Christmas lights go up along Orchard Road is one of the first signs that the festive season is here! The start of December marks the beginning of a much anticipated month of merry-making, work parties, gatherings and catching up with loved ones and friends. If you are concerned about balancing all your festive dining with your waistline, or are simply keeping a lookout for healthy eats, you are at the right place.
Suggest these places for dining where you know there are healthy choices available, or contribute a healthy dish from one of these places when you are attending a party.
Here are 14 places for eating healthy in Singapore this Christmas.
Followers on Instagram would know that I am a die-hard #jamieoliver fan – I love the way Jamie Oliver cooks, and what he stands for, which is very much aligned with the philosophy of Sofia Nutrition.
The new menu at Jamie’s Italian is beyond exciting to me, with plenty of vibrant salads and lighter options for mains. Just take a look at the ingredients in the Superfood Salad – packed with puy lentils, quinoa, black rice, roasted beets, char-grilled avocado, sprouting broccoli and a secret seed mix (which absolutely sounds right up my alley, right!). Other salad highlights include the Roasted Heritage Carrot and Avocado Salad, and Spring Salmon Salad (exclusive at Vivocity).
For Christmas, Jamie’s Italian has a 3 course Christmas set menu ($79.50) which includes a glass of prosecco, an antipasti, a choice of main, a dessert, and tea or coffee. Featured is the Oven Roasted Halibut, and the Honeycomb Cannelloni Three Ways.
*Enjoy 20% discount off the Christmas set menu if you dine before 30th November, 2015.
THE MARMALADE PANTRY

I have introduced multiple friends to The Marmalade Pantry over the years, ever since my first visit to the establishment when it was still located at Palais Renaissence. That first visit must have been a good 6 or 7 years ago, and it has left a very memorable impression on me.
Now located conveniently in the heart of Orchard Road at Ion Orchard, The Marmalade Pantry is a good place to suggest to friends for gatherings or casual meet-ups. I love that it is located a few floors above the usual crowds that throng Orchard Road, providing a nice, quiet location for intimate and heartfelt conversations.
For Christmas this year, The Marmalade Pantry has specially prepared a Festive Buffet ($68++ per adult, $34++ per child) at its Novena outlet, and a special Christmas a la carte menu that is available at both the Ion and Novena outlet. Go for the Pan Roasted Cod ($36) for a lighter option, but all three mains on their festive menu are either braised or roasted, and served up with plenty of side vegetables.

THE WHITE RABBIT

The White Rabbit is another establishment that is ideal as a dining venue for gatherings or meet-ups with friends. Housed in a beautifully restored 1930s Ebenezer Chapel in the heart of Demsey, it is the quintessential white Christmas experience in Singapore.
The White Rabbit has a 3 course Festive Set Lunch Menu ($42++ per person) that is available only on weekdays, as well as a special Christmas Eve Dinner (24th Dec 2015) and Christmas Day Buffet Brunch (25th Dec 2015). The Festive Set Lunch Menu provides for a variety of options for its appetizers and mains, such as the Radish and Endive Salad, Petuna Ocean Trout Confit, the Kuhlbarra Barramundi, and the Guinea Fowl.

End your festive meal with the Creamy Grand Marnier Fruit Deluxe ($12) or Pomegranate Citrus Smoked Duck ($13) Deutsch skillet pancakes at D’Good Café, which has taken a spin on their usual pancake and drink menu offerings for Christmas. Beautifully topped with fresh fruits such as dragonfruit, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, mandarin orange slices, pear slices and pomegranate, these pancakes are a refreshing end to any meal.
P.S. Sharing is caring!
THE SOUP SPOON

I absolutely love The Soup Spoon brand and Souperchef Anna’s Instagram feed! It shows so much passion and dedication that she has for clean eating and for creating healthy and nutritious meals. I am absolutely glad that The Soup Spoon has been coming up with more main items on top of its soup offerings.
For Christmas this year, The Soup Spoon makes party planning a fuss-free and healthy experience for you and your guests with its three specially-themed Festive Sets – Peace ($235), Hope ($275) and Love ($310).

Dining at The Rotisserie is always an exciting experience because there are simply so many choices that one can make!
I love that they have plenty of fresh salad and vegetables as options for their sides, and that they take great pride in serving up a variety of great, tasty salads. Most places serve their salads as a side to their mains much like an afterthought, and I eat them just because they are veggies, not because they are tasty. I also love that The Rotisserie serves fresh cut fruits as one of the dessert options, for a healthy sweet end to a satisfying meal.
With their comprehensive catering and delivery menu, you can choose to order a la carte mains for your guests to accommodate to individual taste preferences, sharing packs for 10 or more people, bento box packages, or even set up a buffet line for your guests. For Christmas, they have a Take-Home Pack ($180, serves 8 – 10 people) that can be customized, so it is best if you enquire in-store or contact their sales team for more information.

Located right in the heart of the Central Business District, the Raw Bar serves up healthy and wholesome meals to the working crowd with its selection of salads, soups and flatbreads.
If you are already a fan of the Raw Bar, the Soup Pot ($140, serves 20) will make the perfect starter for your festive meal, and deliver real, wholesome food for you and your guests without you having to slave over a pot.

Photo: Salad Stop
Salad Stop has an extensive range of salad, wrap and sandwich platters on its catering menu that makes party planning for a health conscious crowd so much simpler. I love the idea of having a mix of different platters for sharing, which is the true spirit of Christmas in gathering around with your loved ones sharing a joyous meal (but really just because I want to try a bit of everything on the menu).
Consider picking up one or two salad trays as a starter for your Christmas meal, or if you need to bring something to a pot-luck style Christmas gathering. I promise that no one will call you a party pooper for bringing a salad to a party, after you get them to try one of these salads!
P.S. You are cordially invited to my Christmas party next year if you get banned from any future Christmas parties after this. Bring salad!

Photo: Huber’s Butchery
‘Decorate your table, not your tree’
Their tagline for Christmas is surely catchy! I have included Huber’s Butchery in this list (even though I seldom consume animal proteins personally – but what’s Christmas without a roast or a turkey!) for their range of organic and grass-fed beef which, if you do eat animal proteins, is considered as a quality source as the animals are humanely raised and fed their natural diets.
I also chose to recommend Huber’s Butchery because of their passion and dedication to their profession. I watched a number of videos on their homepage explaining the different cuts of meat, the different portions of meat recommended for a barbeque, and how to cook various dishes, and I must say that I am incredibly impressed. Their Christmas catalogue actually states, ‘No orders by phone, email, or through the website. Christmas is important therefore we would like to speak to you, show you and explain to you what we have to offer and find the best solution for you.‘
I am confident that they will be able to make good recommendations if you are planning for a healthier festive meal. If you do have any experiences (positive or negative) with Huber’s Butchery, do share them with me and the other readers here!
